DLBP secures permission for new airspace development in the London Borough of Merton

Location: London Borough of Merton.

Issue: Our client wanted to maximise the development potential of two adjacent sites in order to build new residential apartments.

How we helped and added value: Our client was seeking to develop two sites adjacent to each other, each comprising a modest block of flats in a suburban residential street. Planning permission had previously been granted for a modest development on one of the sites, but this permission had lapsed and would not have provided the floorspace needed to make the schemes viable for our client’s objectives.

We recommended a multi-stage approach to securing permission on each of the sites through new airspace developments. We also sought further amendments to increase the gross internal area of the apartments.

Planning permission was successfully granted for five new apartments with the level of new floorspace maximised across the two buildings - a great result.
